The full story
The Traditional bar begins with olive oil, water, and lye. In the workshop, heat and time turn those ingredients into soap. The batch is poured onto the casting floor, leveled, stamped, and cut by hand before the bars are stacked into towers to cure.
As the bars dry, they become firm and dense. The finished soap has no added fragrance or color, and its lather is creamy rather than full of large bubbles. Variations in shade, cut, and stamp reflect how each batch is made.
How to use
Wet the bar, lather between your hands or with a washcloth, wash, and rinse well. Let the bar dry on a draining dish between uses. Avoid contact with eyes.

Lye WaterThe traditional ingredient that transforms oils into soap through saponification. It reacts with the oils during the process and does not remain as active lye in a properly made finished bar.

Cooking makes soap. Curing gives the Traditional bar time to dry. After cutting, the bars stand in open towers that let air pass between them. Over the following months they lose moisture and become firmer, ready for repeated use. At home, the same principle applies: give the bar air and a place to drain between washes.
How Traditional olive oil soap is made
From olive oil to a hand-stamped bar
Follow the Traditional bar through four stages: cooked, cut, cured and stacked, then wrapped. A few days of work begin a process that takes months to finish.
Cooked
Olive oil, water, and lye cook together in an open vat for about three days. The hot soap is then carried to the casting floor, poured into a broad sheet, and leveled by hand.
Cut
Once the slab has set, the bars are marked, stamped, and cut by hand. Small differences in their edges and impressions are part of the workshop's method.
Cured and stacked
The cut bars are stacked into open towers with gaps for air to circulate. Over the following months, moisture leaves the soap and the bars become firm and dense.
Wrapped
After curing, the bars are individually wrapped and packed at the workshop. Traditional soap reaches U.S. customers in its Roots 1880 packaging.

Why does it make fewer bubbles?
Pure olive oil soap is known for a creamy, low-bubble lather. A smaller amount of foam does not mean you need to keep adding soap.
